Blog Post 2: Huck Finn ( CH. 13-17)

In Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the author greatly describes Huck, the protagonist, that he is greatly influenced by Widow Douglas, Tom Sawyer, Pap and Jim.

Widow Douglas influences Huck in a directly good way because she teaches and makes him believe the importance of education, manners and religion. Widow Douglas indirectly influenced Huck by giving him freedom to do what ever he wants sometimes when it’s not the right thing to do. A quote that the widow said to Huck that follows how she influences him is, on page 3; she told him “you would want to go to the good side than the bad side when you die, even if you don’t like your life”.

Tom Sawyer influences Huck in a good way because he shows him that you don’t have to do something, if you don’t want to and you can still have fun and be adventurous. Tom doesn’t influence Huck in a bad way because he messes, lies and cons people into doing something else. A quote that Huck says that goes to show that Tom influenced him was on page 50. Huck said “man I wish Tom Sawyer was here, he would be proud of me, just like he would be doing’ it.”

Pap influences Huck in a good way by showing him how to survive in the wild and know what to do in it. Pap indirectly influences Huck in a bad way by telling him that stealing is sometimes borrowing if you give the person something else or return it later, even if you don’t have permission. Also that school and religion is bad because you don’t want to be better than your father. A passage that pap says to Huck is that he will not grow up to be better than him. He will either be the same or worse than him. This shows that pap dosen't care about Huck.

Jim influences Huck in a good way by telling him not to worry about things that can happen and worry about things that you could do to change that. Jim indirectly influences Huck in a bad way by telling him all these supersitions, which they now both think they happen, and know that is why he worries a lot about things that will happe. Based on superstitions. A passage that jim tells him is that if you take the snake's skin off after it bits you. Then, nothing bad will happen to you because of the bite.

Huck Finn Responce

So far in Huck Finn, Huck has been taken in by Widow Douglas and has been going to school and Church. He runs away and goes with tom sawyer, which he thinks he about to join a real gang, but it turns out to be a fake one. Then on his way home he sees foot tracks in front of his home and goes to the judge and gives him all the money. When he gets home he sees his dad in his room and his dad is mad because he Huck is doing better than him in life and he doesn't like it. Then Pap demands for Huck's money, Huck says he only has a dollar and his dad takes it to get drunk. Huck's dad gets drunk and goes to the judge to get Huck's money but, the judge says he doesn't have any. Pap gets drunk again and kidnapped Huck and takes him to his cabin. Then Huck escapes and fakes his death. Huck goes to Jackson Island and sees Jim. Jim tells him how he got there and Huck goes to town to find out what is going on, dressed as a girl.

What I like is they carried it on from tom sawyer and its very adventures. Also I like how The chapters are short so you can get as much information as possible to remember it. Lastly, I like each character is different. What I don't like is that, There is so much information in just one little chapter. Also I dislike the description because there isn't a lot of details.
